PUBLIC SCULPTURE IN THE FOUNDATIONAL AXIS OF SANTIAGO DE CHILE

In a world increasingly in need of encounter, dialogue and a sense of community, the work ‘Vientos de Luz’ (Winds of Light) emerges as a symbolic gesture of unity. It stands at Chile's ground zero, at the intersection of Alameda and Norte-Sur, in the heart of the country, just above the Los Héroes Metro station. A place full of history and traffic, which is now transformed into a space for contemplation, reunion and symbolic projection towards the regeneration of the soul and the challenges of the future.

The sculpture is conceived as an organism composed of two interdependent bodies in harmonious tension: the nucleus and its extensions. Like an atom in equilibrium, its strength emanates from the energy flowing between its elements.

THE NUCLEUS - CUBE / DIAMOND

In the centre, a solid dark violet cube symbolises stability, permanence and geometrical perfection. Its immutable form represents the essential, that which remains true from any perspective. This figure is associated in sacred geometry with the earth element and the root chakra, anchoring, sustaining and connecting us to the concrete and the real.

However, the cube is not static: as night falls, an inner light begins to emanate, revealing a new dimension. The cube optically transforms into a diamond, a symbol of purity, strength, clarity and eternity. This transformation represents a rebirth, the passage from dense matter to an elevated, luminous and spiritual expression. Thus, the sculpture mutates with light and time, becoming a living body that breathes with the rhythm of day and night, charging itself with energy to share in the darkness.

EXTENSIONS - WINGS / PETALS - FLIGHT / METAMORPHOSIS

Six large angular structures emerge from the core, one side gold and the other chrome, which can be interpreted as wings, petals or even expanding limbs. This ambiguous character invites interpretation without imposing a closed meaning. In the public space, this openness to multiple readings is golden.

What at first glance may appear to be wings is also revealed as the image of a flower in a gesture of opening, or the instant stopped in the metamorphosis of a butterfly. This duality generates a constant dialogue between matter and symbol, between the urban and the spiritual.

The extensions symbolise flight, freedom, transcendence and hope. Like a suspended veil, they allow us to see the city through their transparency, evoking the very moment when something is about to rise: a transformation in progress, a contained energy about to unfold.

FRAMEWORK - SUPPORT AND POETICS

The steel tensors that support the sculpture are not only a structural element, but an integral part of its visual language. These lines of tension dialogue with the work as a whole, providing rhythm, direction and continuity. Thus, the support transcends its technical function and becomes a symbol: a connection between the elevated form and the ground that supports it, between what ascends and what remains anchored to the territory.

A FLOWER IN THE HEART OF THE CITY

From the pavement, ‘Vientos de Luz’ opens up like a Golden Thimble, that native yellow/orange flower that sprouts vigorously along Chilean roads every spring. Likewise, this sculpture rises in the centre of Santiago like a flower of light, expanding in its multiple interpretations and dialoguing with the city and with those who pass through it, its location, charged with historical, geographical and emotional significance, reinforces the message of the work: at the centre of it all, there is a transforming energy, a light that unites, that elevates and invites us to imagine new ways of living together. A structure that invites us to stop, breathe, observe and begin again.
